For a natural approach to managing seasonal allergies, consider incorporating aromatherapy for hay fever relief. Certain essential oils offer gentle antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties that can help ease symptoms — without the side effects often associated with conventional medications.
You can even create your own natural antihistamine aromatherapy blend to help soothe common hay fever symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, and nasal congestion.
Antihistamine Aromatherapy Blend
- 30 drops lavender essential oil
- 20 drops peppermint essential oil
- 15 drops lemon essential oil
- 10 drops chamomile essential oil (not stocked at Wild Oats)
- 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 5 drops geranium essential oil
How to make your Antihistamine Aromatherapy Blend
Lavender, peppermint, lemon and chamomile support and calm your body's reaction to histamine while eucalyptus and geranium help with a healthy inflammation response.
Add all these oils to a 10ml bottle, and give it a good shake. Add 10-15 drops of your blend to a diffuser or oil burner and breathe in deeply as needed for relief.
You can also add 6 drops of your blend to 10ml of carrier oil and apply topically (e.g. use to a roller ball and roll over your pulse points).
For congestion and to support cool and clear breathing, try Amour Natural's Breathe Ease blend.
